This page is done in memory of my dad. Dad passed away on April 30, 2000.
You are listening to "Daddy's Hands", by Holly Dunn. This song reminds me of my dad.

DADDY'S HANDS
HOLLY DUNN

"I REMEMBER DADDY'S HANDS FOLDED SILENTLY IN PRAYER,
AND REACHING OUT TO HOLD, ME WHEN I HAD A NIGHTMARE,
YOU COULD READ QUITE A STORY IN THE CALOUSES AND LINES,
YEARS OF WORK AND WORRY, HAD LEFT THEIR MARK BEHIND,
I REMEMBER HOW THEY HELD MY MAMA TIGHT,
AND PATTED MY BACK, FOR SOMETHING DONE RIGHT,
THERE ARE THINGS THAT I'VE FORGOTTEN,
THAT I LOVED ABOUT THE MAN,
BUT I'LL ALWAYS REMEMBER THE LOVE IN DADDY'S HANDS

DADDY'S HANDS WERE SOFT AND KIND WHEN I WAS CRYING,
DADDY'S HANDS WERE HARD AS STEEL WHEN I DONE WRONG,
DADDY'S HANDS WEREN'T ALWAYS GENTLE,
BUT I'VE COME TO UNDERSTAND,
THERE WAS ALWAYS A LOVE IN DADDY'S HANDS

I REMEMBER DADDY'S HANDS WORKING TILL THEY BLED,
SACRAFICING SELFISHLY JUST TO KEEP US ALL FED<
IF I COULD DO THINGS OVER,
I'D LIVE MY LIFE AGAIN, AND NEVER TAKE FOR GRANTED,
THE LOVE IN DADDY'S HANDS,

DADDY'S HANDS WERE SOFT AND KIND WHEN I WAS CRYING,
DADDY'S HANDS WERE HARD AS STEEL WHEN I DONE WRONG,
DADDY'S HANDS WEREN'T ALWAYS GENTLE,
BUT I'VE COME TO UNDERSTAND,
THERE WAS ALWAYS A LOVE IN DADDY'S HANDS

DADDY'S HANDS WERE SOFT AND KIND WHEN I WAS CRYING,
DADDY'S HANDS WERE HARD AS STEEL WHEN I DONE WRONG,
DADDY'S HANDS WEREN'T ALWAYS GENTLE,
BUT I'VE COME TO UNDERSTAND,
THERE WAS ALWAYS A LOVE IN DADDY'S HANDS"

Dad was born in Mass. on January 4, 1927.
He had 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
He was a veteran of World War II, he was stationed
in Italy and Alaska during that time.

Dad and his sister Muriel

He married our mom on November 19, 1955.

Dad and Mom

Brother Bob was born in August 1956, I came along in March 1958.
Dad taught us how to fish when we were kids. We had to get up early when
we got older, he was one of those get up at 5 a.m., fisherman.
So you were all done and home before noon.
He also taught us how to use, handle a gun, and how to hunt.
We grew up listening to country music. Dads favorite singers were:
Hank Williams Sr., Kitty Wells, Patsy Cline, Ernest Tubb....etc.
So this could be why both my brother and I like country music.

Dad made sure we could read and write before we started school.
To this day both my brother and I still love to read.
We are passing this along to our kids also. Education was very important to our parents.

Dad taught us alot of different things. We worked on our own vehicles,
{yes dad taught even me, his daughter}
he wanted to make sure we tried what we could before calling him.
Also that we would not be stranded some where with nothing but a flat,
or something we could easily fix. This turned out to be great for me,
because I now can do my own tuneups, change oil, fix or replace brakes,
and of course change a flat.
{Although I must tell you that there are times this offends some men.}
I would much rather have had my head in a motor when I was younger than in the house.
So thank you daddy for teaching me these things.

We always had a big garden, and as much as we hated working in it,
we sure loved the food. I remember always thinking when I grew up
I would never have a garden. I hated weeding the garden,
all the work in the hot sun..YUCK. Well it sure is funny
how things turn out, I have a large garden of my own now.
Not as big as the one we had at home, but a good sized one.

Dad took me out on my 16th birthday for my first time driving the car.
I had all my friends with me, and off we went up the street.
I got my license when I was 16, after taking drivers ed.
Well much to my parents dismay, I totaled the car when
I was 18. I came around a corner, slid in some sand and
smashed in the whole passenger side of the car.
{Those darn telephone poles will jump right out there}
Dad was working 3rd shift at the time, and boy was I dreading him
getting up. When he got up, I had to take him out and show him what I had
done. I thought he would stand there and scream at me, about what I had
done. He didn't, instead he pointed to all the damage and told me what it
would cost to fix it. Let me tell you, to this day I wish he had yelled at
me. The last thing you want to hear as a high school senior, is what it will
cost to fix the car you just smashed up. The next day mom needed some things
at the store, and dad made me go get them. He said if I didn't get right
back to driving I might never drive again. It took me 45 minutes for a 10
minute drive to the store. I was so scared, but he knew that and he knew I
had to drive this soon after the accident. Dad also taught us how to ride a
motorcycle, I still have my motorcycle license to this day.
We got mini bikes when we were 8 and 9 I think it was.
We rode those in the yard as well as up and down the street.
Nice to live in a street where only the people who live there come down it.
My first motorcycle was a red Honda 150.
My next one was a Blue Honda CL70, both were street bikes.
Which we rode in the yard, the cow pasture and the woods.
When we rode out back there was a rock there that was perfect for jumping.
Used to scare the hell out of my mom when I would come
flying around the corner and go airborn off that rock!
In the fall we used to go out in the woods and cut wood for the winter.
The trees had been cut earlier to season, and we had to go out and cut them up.
We always had the tractor to drag the wood out with, and dad always
had a bottle of Blackberry Brandy to keep us all warm.
I can cut and split wood for the wood stove, with either an ax or a wedge
and sledge hammer.
I have so many memories of my dad, that I could never
put them all here.
This page has helped me to work through losing my dad,
and I hope it lets people know how much I loved him.
To this day I feel my dad is with me, and I can talk to him anytime I want.
Make sure your relatives know how you feel about them, while they are still with you.
That way you will know, they knew when they are no longer physically with you.

Dad in the hat I got him for xmas 1983.
His hat says "OLD FART" this was my nickname for him.
