None of us knew,
That sunny day in September,
It would be put to the test,
A date we will always remember,

The innocents who were placed in harm's way,
Called upon their rescuers in their time of need,
Responding without a thought,
The people's pleas we would heed,

Hundreds answered the call,
To come to the aid of so many imperiled lives,
Sons, daughters, brothers and sisters,
Mothers, Fathers, husbands and wives,

Without hesitation we jumped to action,
Doing what we do best,
Taking care of others,
In extreme times of duress,

This time however,
We lost many of our brothers and sisters in blue,
Firefighters and police officers,
Paramedics and EMT's too,

The loss was devastating,
It still seems so unreal,
One thing is for sure,
This is a loss we all feel,

I have faith that our brothers and sisters,
Are watching over us from up above,
Protecting the streets of Heaven,
Doing the job they so much love,
