SAFETY PAGE
FIRE SAFETYThe U.S. has the highest annual
deathrate from fire of any developed country, so please practice these and
be careful!
NEVER PLAY WITH MATCHES OR LIGHTERS OF ANY KIND!
Many children
are burned badly every year, and this is one
reason.STOP, DROP & ROLL
I'm sure you all learn this
in fire safety during Fire Prevention Week. If your clothes ever catch fire,
stay calm and remember "STOP, DROP & ROLL"!
BBQ
Never spray lighter fluid into a hot grill. The flames can
follow it back to the can, and it will explode in your hand!
If you are
burned, cool it with cool water and wrap it loosely in dressing. Then either
go to the hospital or call the ambulance. It is NOT necessary to break open
blisters. In fact this can lead to infection. Please keep your grill a safe
distance from your home. That way if there is a flare up or explosion, you
and your home will be safer. FIREWORKS Should only be
handled by trained professionals! Please go to a local show to enjoy them,
and have a safe holiday!
CAMPFIRES OR BONFIRES
If you
build one, please make sure you have water handy, in case it gets out of
hand. Also make sure you put it out completely before leaving the area. Use
water and dirt to smother the fire.CHECK YOUR SMOKE
DETECTORS & CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS
Change the batterys in these at
least twice a year. Try doing it on the same day you set your clocks ahead
and again when you set your clocks back. This makes it easy to
remember! PLAN 2 ESCAPE ROUTES FROM BEDROOMS & YOUR
HOME
Practice them so your children know what to do!
Have a meeeting
place for the family outside. This way you can be sure everyone is out
safely.
PLEASE PRACTICE THESE!
Please explain how
important it is to your children to get out of the house. Tell them how
dangerous it is to hide, and how dangerous it is to go back inside. These
are only reminders of what they are taught during fire prevention. this is
meant to keep them safe....not to scare them!CHRISTMAS
TREES & LIGHTS
Please if you must use candles on your tree. DO NOT LEAVE
THEM UNATTENDED! Our department had a fire on New Years Eve, because of
this! A lady had real candles on her tree, and fell asleep with them lit.
Luckliy no one was injured, and the fire was put out before much damage was
done.
Check your light strings, before you put them on the tree. Looks
for breaks or cracks in the wires. Always have another person there if you
go up on the roof to put up decorations. Remember to stay clear of power
lines while you are up there!POWER LINES
If you are trimming
trees, or painting. Make sure you stear clear of the power lines leading
from the street to your home!
Please if you have a generator, make sure
it is properly installed by an electrician. The current can go back out
through the line to the street, if it is not hooked up right. This has
injured power company employees.
